Harvest Hosts, the what, when and why. (oh, and the how much)

I purchased a subscription to Harvest Hosts for Zita and I this Christmas, and we could not wait to try it out in our 2019 Thor Quantum rw28.

Yes we are somewhat newbies having taken only 5 short trips in 2019, all within the state of Florida. But staying overnight without hookups was a different story altogether. So far we have relied upon RV parks with full hookups, somewhat level sites and flickering streetlights. So it was time (if only for one night) to try our hand and coach, at operating under our own water and power, or boondocking as it’s called. Boondocking means that you use your onboard water and electricity to park overnight, sans hookups. Almost like “living off the grid.” But wait… you might be asking yourself, what is Harvest Hosts?

Can’t wait to find out and want to jump right in? Visit the Harvest Hosts website here and receive 15% off your first years membership.

Harvest Hosts is an membership network of wineries, breweries, farms, museums and more that for a yearly fee has done all the work for you. They have amassed over thirteen hundred locations across the USA where you can park your rig and boondock, for free! Usually it’s for one overnight stay but most hosts are nice and accommodating to allow you a second night’s stay. Now we say free, and parking overnight is indeed free, but there are expenses that you will incur. Currently there is a membership fee of $79 for the basic package and $119 for the basic and the golf course package. Harvest Hosts also asks that you frequent the location you will be staying at and purchase their products or attend their tours. While this is not strictly mandatory, it is a request.

To give you an example, we stayed at a location in Florida that is an organic blueberry farm. So, on this farm they make fresh jams, pies and moonshine, all from the fruits they grow. We ended up buying 4 pies at a cost of $24. With the average RV park costing $35 to $120 a night, $24 is a great deal! So as you can see, there is a definite cost savings to using Harvest Hosts to boondock.

In my opinion the other benefit to using Harvest Hosts is safety. Rather than locations like Walmart and Cracker Barrel that have traffic coming in and going out all day long, Harvest Host locations are on private property, which in most cases, shuts down at the end of the day.

This leaves you in a private, quiet, and safe location. Perfect for turning the tv off and enjoying the company you are with.

Do we love it? Is it worth it? Will we use it again? We’d be foolish not to and you’ll be happy you did!

Thanks Bob for the great tip about checking in with the property about burning a fire pit. We enjoyed having you stay with us, we'll do it again soon!

A very nice blog site, with lots of great information and lots of room for the kind of tips people can share with others that they may find very useful,"like always" check in with the property's you may boondock on, always ask first if they will allow you to burn a fire pit, and always make sure you fire is out befor turning in! What a great relaxing time I had staying with my brother Jeff, and his wonderful wife, and sister-in-law Zita, and yes Baxter, thier talking dog! Hope to hear from him again! Safe travels guys!

About Baxters Daily Dump

We're Jeff, Zita and Baxter Pierce from Orlando, FL. We bought a 2019 Thor Quantum rw28 class C motorhome with plans after retirement to travel out west and see this beautiful country and meet amazing people! In the meantime we will put our RV through it's paces by visiting state parks in Florida and maybe taking a few trips up the east coast. You might even hear a few thoughts from Baxter himself. (Yes he can talk, at least in our minds!) We hope to see you on the road.
