Self-Isolation/Privacy Mod

Updated: Sep 2, 2020

Self-isolation makes you do crazy things! Here’s a mod Zita and I just finished on our 2019 Thor Quantum rw28. We love our Thor but wished that the bathroom was just a little larger.

Getting out of the shower and drying off is next to impossible. Zita had a great idea that if the bathroom door is open, it increases the bathroom space.

But if you are hosting guests, then privacy is the problem and that means the crack in the door and the spot between the open door and the fridge.

This is mod we came up with.

It is held securely in place with a doorstop so now when you step out of the shower, you have all the room between the bathroom and the bedroom to work with.

Here’s what the mod looks like closed and from the outside.

It is a 6X8X3/8 plastic plank (for weight) with a wood-like texture molded into it. I bought one can of satin spray paint in the color called "Nutmeg". It’s not a perfect color match, but close enough for us. Here’s what the mod looks like closed from the outside. (all parts purchased at Home Depot)

It’s held to the frame with a 4 foot piano hinge. I use the hinge screws to mount the panel to the molding around the fridge, but purchased #6 3/8 screws to attach the panel to the hinge. I added a door stop to the bottom inside of the door and pieces of straight rubber molding in the door crack.

Lastly we added a black sticky backed hook to use as a handle and double as a kitchen towel hook. (I will also paint the screws black to match the hinge.

CAUTION!!! You will not be able to close your kitchen slide when this mod is closed as in this picture.

You will need to keep this panel partially open all the time. (or 90 degrees to the wall) You have been warned!

Total cost was around $50 and took a couple of hours to paint and install.

Enjoy!!!
